Tv Reviews Jan 11th 1986

Memphis TV 1/11/86 Jerry Lawler lost that loser-leaves-town match to Bill Dundee! So no "King" on television(we'll see how long that lasts.) Buddy Landell made his Memphis TV return(after being fired from the NWA if you recall) Lance Russell said of the "Nature Boy "We never said he couldn't wrestle folks. He just suffers from a major charm deficiency!"(how can you not love Lance?) "The Bladerunners" had a dangerous looking awful squash match,Otherwise known as Sting and Warrior using their real names. Rick Casey Bill Dundee and Buddy Landell all won squash bouts. They have been pushing a storyline that Tony Faulk (a job guy) has never won a match, well on this show he teamed with Dutch Mantell vs The Fantastics. Dutch promised victory......Mantell was going to nail Tommy Rodgers with a chair outside when Rick Casey ran out hit him in the back with a cowbell(where the blue hell did that come from?) Casey chases Dutch to the back. Meanwhile, in the ring the hapless Faulk gets pinned! The other big news was a celebration by Dundee with all the heels with a big cake. After Bill's match he is beating up the jobber when "Big Red"runs in! A 500 hundred LBS black guy who's finishing move was called(i'm not making this up) the "Holy Ghost" splash! Perhaps he was Oral Roberts favorite wrestler? "If Big Red does not beat that unmitigated unholy agent of Satan Bill Dundee Monday night in Memphis, God's gonna call me home" Just a reminder to God's people no guns allowed,"donation" Boxes will be at all doors and if you bring a covered dish you get $5 dollars off a general admission ticket".) My daddy is a preacher that last paragraph was way to easy to write!)I digress, back to the show Ole Red Laid waste to Dundee and Mantell! Packed show right their!
NWA Worldwide 1/11/86 Great promo's and a bunch of squash matches! Tully said If dusty wanted to use something he had for a year and used up all the best parts of her, he could have her(BabyDoll) I will speak on behalf of us all, when I say EEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWW!!!
Double A Said He was great as a child when he grew up he didn't need role models he was overjoyed just to be himself! The last segment of this show was money! One of the great angles in Wrestling history(at least for me) took Place. After an RNR squash The Midnight Express run out and attack them from behind. They knock Robert out of the ring. Double team  Morton and drop him throat first on Cornette's tennis racquet causing storyline internal bleeding and hemorrhaging(I'm sure many of you know how this was done, If not find a clip of Jimmy telling the story! Interesting tale! He tells it better than I can write it!)
NWA 605 TBS show 1/11/86 Good show Highpoints include: Ric Flair trying and failing to have any rhythm at all as he "danced" around to Dion's "Runaround Sue During a promo! "Pistol" Pez Whatley cutting the most entertaining nonsense promo I've ever seem(at the end of the promo he spun around for no reason at all I laughed for two minutes. Cornette saying he and his mama and all her friends were proud of their attack on the RNR express! A long segment hosted by Bill "we'll see you at the matches" Apter where he had a full two segment interview with TA. Talking about different challengers for his title. There was also a title change on the show as Sam Houston defeated Krusher K for the Mid-Atlantic belt! I believe Krusher blew out his knee(legit)and was out for several months! The go home angle was this. During a AA squash match, BabyDoll was at ringside she told him he was "next" he goes outside to confront her. Dusty gets in the ring, Arn turns around sees Dusty thinks about his odds 1-on 1 for a minute. Then walks away screaming "on my time not yours!" Perfect chicken shit heel work! The show ends with big Dust holding court mid-ring! Just very well done!

  1. Very well wrote John Boy You were like eight years old when this Bill Dundee thing took place, I know you did not have to do much research on this. I hope I had a little something to do with your love of wrestling. At three months old you were watching watching wrestling. I remember when your dad and I were pastors at Calvary Tabernacle, we lived in the side rooms, we took you to Sunday School and about half way through Worship Service, I would take you and prop you up on the couch so you could watch wrestling, of course I went back in to church( most every time)As time went on you totally left me in the dust. I am proud that you have a great love of sports, not just a sports fan. You have knowledge beyond believe. Keep writing. I am proud of you my son.
