Jan 5th Mid-south Power Pro Wrestling (Personal aside here, I'm very excited to watch this territory I did not see it much as a child, so much of it will be new to me!) Show opens with a very trim young man named Jim Ross(seems sorta familiar huh???) 1st bout clips from the semi-finals of the Mid-south TV title tourney. As "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan faces "the Unpredictable" Dick Slater with his valet Dark Journey. A Good solid match as Duggan was a big strong very believable charismatic "face." Dick Stater in my opinion is one of the most overlooked great "heels"ever! Match ended with a classic spot as Slater was caught in the ropes Journey handed him a pair of brass Knucks (the ref was distracted by Duggan's then girlfriend Deborah who came to the ring with him.) Slater gets untied takes a swing at Ole Hacksaw, Duggan blocks the punch hits Slater who drops the knucks. Duggan picks them up and with a giant haymaker puts Dick down for the pin!.........But wait as ref Tommy Gilbert raises his hand he sees the object on Duggan's hand and reverses the decision,your winner advancing to the TV tournament finals Dick Slater! Just great Pro wrestling storytelling here!
Next up a squash match featuring Mr.Saito and the Masked Superstar.Then taped promos from Ted Dibiase and Dick Murdoch hyping a taped fist match they are gonna have in New Orleans on the 13th of Jan(God I hope they show clips on tv)! In case you don't know those two are two of the best all-time! Now Terry Taylor vs Chris Adams.Good match from these 2 both solid workers. Ending took the match down a notch though, as their was a ref bump Adams went to the top rope for the high cross-body, Taylor was supposed to roll though reverse and get the pin.the reversal looked awful Taylor won but it was clunky.
Next up a bout that should be tremendous Ric Flair and Dick Slater face Butch Reed and Jake Roberts! Again a solid great match with a bad mistimed finish! Roberts pinned flair with one of the worst Schoolboys I've ever seen! (You gotta watch the link to understand how bad it was!) is that the worst one you have ever seen? Leave me a comment if you have seen a more clunky finish?) The show comes to a close after a Brett Sawyer squash.
A great show on paper but the execution left a lot to be desired! I built myself up so i'm sorta disappointed!
World Class Championship Wrestling 1/6/86 From Reunion Arena in Fort Worth Texas. A 2-out-of 3-falls tag match With Michael Hayes and Buddy Roberts "Iceman" King Parsons and Lance Von Erich.
Good solid work here from all four guys.Hayes was one of the best "arrogant" heels ever. Parsons was beloved in Dallas you can clearly why here! those people lived and died with him! 1st fall went to the good guys when Roberts went for the bulldog headlock, Parsons countered by sending Buddy into the turnbuckle. Roberts hit chest first turned around into "Iceman's" patented hip-butt for the 1st fall. Parsons and Von Erich won the bout in 2 straight falls when the other member of the Fabulous Freebirds Terry Gordy ran in and attacked Von Erich With his deadly "Asiatic spike" hold from behind.(well of course he did he's a heel by GOD!) Parsons had been hurt on the floor by this point,the faces came from the dressing room to get the birds of the prone carcass of Von Erich, clever aren't I, that's how the show ended! great story told here both in-ring and storyline perfect way to end a show!
